Hey friends, Jess here!
I’m here with your third post-Recover check-in, and I want us to take a moment to revisit and process the Recovering Boundaries + Rhythms Session, session 3.
1. Let’s dive into scripture together.
First, some further reading: has it been a while since you really read these words of Jesus? Matthew 11:28-30. Read it and think about the following:
- What is Jesus saying to us in this passage?
- What would it look like for us to live out this invitation?
- What is holding us back from living the way He’s describing?
2. Let’s look back at past hurts.
A lot of us struggle with boundaries + rhythms because of untrue words that have been spoken over our lives. It’s probably well past time for us to process those with God.
- What were you taught (directly or inadvertently) about boundaries?
- Has there been a time in your life when you’ve created a boundary, and it hasn’t been received well?
- What has caused you to give up on pursuing or protecting healthy rhythms in the past?
3. Further Resources
Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley Barton: This is a must read, and an encouraged re-read!
Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud is the Bible on boundaries. Trust me!
4. A question we didn’t get to:
Someone asked this question during the event, and we didn’t get to talk about it in full. “What are some examples of rhythms we can implement?”
Let’s start with some big buckets of areas that would be helpful to have rhythms in + then I’ll share some examples of ideas within each:
First, these are some big buckets to think through: health, spiritual, relationships, finances, rest, and hobbies.
Some examples of rhythms in each:
Health: taking supplements, going on walks, dry brushing, drinking water, pre-cooking healthy meals, and lifting weights
Spiritual: prayer, scripture reading, personal worship, corporate worship, fasting, meditation
Relationships: datenight, girl’s nights, phone calls during your commute, texting your friends, trips with extended family
Finances: budget checkups, tithing, generous giving, saving
Hobbies: weekly pickleball games, puzzles on a Sunday afternoon, bike riding on your day off
5. My current boundaries + rhythms:
In all our follow-up correspondence, I’ll be getting a little transparent and sharing MY responses to the semi-intense questions I asked you. It’s only fair, right? Hopefully, it helps you keep processing your own God-given dreams, calling, rhythms/boundaries, and bravery. See my actual real-life answers below:
